Record breaking opening ‘Knight’

The highly anticipated Dark Knight film opened up Thursday night to record breaking numbers.

The film, which held midnight and some 3am shows on over 9,000 screens across America, took in an amazing 18.4 million dollars, passing the previous leader, which was one of the Star Wars films.

Fans have been snatching up tickets for over three weeks now hoping to be one of the first to catch the late Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker, a performance that has long been generating Oscar buzz based off of trailers alone.

The film is estimated to bring in well over 150 million dollars in it’s opening weekend, and expected to pass up Spiderman 3, which currently holds the crown of top sellling weekend in history.
