No Milk for Cinemark!

November 19th, 2008 by Charley

Harvey Milk’s courage to become the first elected openly gay politician in America changed lives, and now your courage can help as well.

WWW.NOMILKFORCINEMARK.COM has started a campaign to boycott going to see the new Sean Penn film, Milk at any theater owned and operated by the Cinemark corporation.

As noted in the flier above, Cinemark CEO Alan Stock donated the max amount of money allowed to the Yes on 8 Campaign which passed and put a ban on gay marriage in the state of California.  Now Alan Stock is going to be showing a historic gay film at his theaters and profiting much more than $10,000 dollars from it.

But through the help of a Facebook group, NoMilkForCinemark is pointing out that if only 1,000 people go see Milk at a competitors theater, at an avarage cost of $10 dollars a ticket, that would lose Cinemark $10,000 in revenue.

Surely theres more than 1,000 people to commit to this cause.

Visit www.nomilkforcinemark.com to help them fight hate, and to find out where you can see Milk at a non cinemark theater.

Does Elton Have the Answer You All Are Lookin’ For?

Elton John wants Americans to stop using the word ‘marriage.’

At an AIDS Foundation event in NYC this week, Elton was bombarded with questions regarding the passing of California Prop 8 which put a ban on gay marriage and he insists it’s not that bad.

Elton tells Access Hollywood; David and I have a civil partnership in England. We have complete rights between the two of us, we’re protected completely. I think the word ‘marriage’ puts a lot of people off in this country.

“If they got over the word ‘marriage,’ I think it would be a lot easier for gay people to get together.”

Are people overreacting because of the word marriage, rather than just having the same equal benifits?

I never really thought of it this way until he said it, but it sort of makes sense.

Progress in Connecticut.

A judge in Connecticut cleared the way for Gay marriage in the state this morning, by giving same sex couples  the same rights to wed as straight couples already have.

This decision comes after the state law which banned gay marriage was successfully challenged by just eight couples!

Connecticut has honored civil unions since 2005, but now it becomes one of only two states to permit same sex marriages at the moment, along with Massachusetts, since the Yes on 8 campaign ripped the rights and equality right outa’ Californa on November 4.

You Can Help No On 8.

What I’m sharing with you here is a photo that was posted on myspace by a Hollywood promoter who was trying to re-direct his club-goers in another direction away from Hollywood/Highland where a No on 8 rally was taking place.

While I don’t agree with the rhyme and reason of this particular sign, I won’t let a few bad seeds ruin the equality rights for my friends.

So heres what you can do.   Visit this website, read up on the facts of how Yes on 8 was WRONG, and sign the petition.  It’s very important that you do so.

Gays Gone Wild.

November 6th, 2008 by Charley

More than 3,000 protesters joined up in Hollywood last night to protest the passing of Prop 8 which puts a ban on gay marriage in the state of California.

For the most part, the protest was completely peaceful as the groups of protesters marched peacefully throughout the city but as always, there’s got to be a few bad seeds.

7 people total were arrested which makes for a pretty good night when you’re talking about 3000+ people.

Check out the video below where a couple of protesters broke from the crowd, one stood on top of the police car and another had to be restrained by the use of night sticks for resisting an officer.

As far as the vote goes, 1.6 million absentee and provisional ballots are still being counted for a race that is only separated by about 500,000 votes.

Regardless of the final count, which is due by December 2, the measure is wrong and discriminating.

California Passes Prop 8

Supporters of Yes on 8 prevailed last night banning gay marriage in the state of California.

It’s sad that there is so much discrimination still going on during a time when a black man and a woman were both prepared last night to celebrate becoming President or Vice President.

The measure passed 52% to 48% outlawing same sex couples in the state of California to marry.

Measures in Arizona, Arkansas, and Florida which would have given same sex couples the right to marry on last nights ballots all failed as well.

Isn’t it time to just treat the gays like the rest of us?

Hilary Duff just put out a new PSA informing you that you should knock it off and quit calling things “gay” when they are bad because it’s insulting.

The whole thing is pretty girl wearing a skirt as a top if you ask me…
